THE DIFFERENCE OF TIME

Noir and Neo-noir in most descriptions the same with very little differences. Most visual elements the same only with the neo-noir films color was incorporated. The films still had the characters of the femme fatal and the protagonist with very little differences in the personalities of the characters. The time frames between the two genres is the most visible difference in the two. Noir films form in the 40s to the 50s and reflected the things that appeared in that time. The Cold War had a major effect in the violence that appeared on film. There was a lot of grime in the streets of the film, a since of loneliness and urgency. Heather Fireman states that noir streets were that of ; Murky shadows, smoke, and rain running down windows obscure to our view of the noir world and make it clear this is a world of ambiguous morality. Neo-noir form in the twentieth century during a new time an error. The same visual affects were shown the films as well as a new type of protagonist, one that is passive, alienated, and without ambition. The other with traits that produce mischief and soap, but also destruction and chaos, vandalism and anarchy. The males play a different role in these two genres. Other than the time frame of the films and slight character change the genres are simply identical. Neo-noir a genre formed in the twentieth century taking on the personality of its time, and classic noir pulling form the war craved streets of its time.

  1. Good job, I pretty much got the same thoughts from the very long article as you did. They have a lot of similarities. Time is definitly one of them. Film noir was basically done in the 1930's through 1950's, where as neo-noir is based on 1990 and later. Modern times. The genders do take on different charateristics at times, but basically have the same motives as noir.

  3. I like the way you showed both sides of the coin. As you mentioned it on your post, both films express what is occurring at that time. In one side noir with the World War II and woman being more involved, and the other side, neo noir, with the men worries to trying not left behind by women.

  4. Hello, I wanted to start off by saying great job on your blog. To me I think that it's simplistic adn you give good and brief facts on the differences between Noir and Neo-Noir. When I researched I almost got the same details as you but not quite. I believe that you enter with more reson than I did. I really liked how you said that the Cold War took place during the film times and how it affected the films and how the violence appeared. I think that you did a wonderful job.

  5. Great blog. I got basically the same idea from the article after I got through it. Thing was ridiculously long. I found though that neo noir was just a rip-off of classic noir. I don't think that noir can effectively be reproduced because the time in which it was made can not be. I think the time reflects the mood and style of noir.

  6. Yes Kimmie great job! This article was super long and what you put in your blog sums it up in a nut shell. They are basically the same thing. Neo noir is just a young gun that stole from the old gun. Neo noir a little more shinny with a little more glitz but wouldn't be anything with out the creation of the classic. Your blog covers the basics and shines the light on the similarities and differences of the two. Keep up the good work I’ll be reading in the future.

  7. yeah but i agree with all that you said except if you really read through the article, you can see the biggest difference isn't that of the time but that of the potryal of the women being in control of her own destiny. And how we almost want her to get away with what ever it's that she was trying or planning to do because men do it all of the time and think that women aren't intelligent enough to pull it off.
